Introducing the Global Index at the Miami Institute for the Social Sciences

Today, we come today with exciting news! For several months, we at the Miami Institute for the Social Sciences have been busy working behind-the-scenes on our biggest project to date: the Global Index! In this video, filmed today, Executive Director Maribel Morey gives a tour of the Global Index at the prototype level. She also asks for your help to take the Global Index to the next level as we continue to work on it. Please let us know if ideas, recommendations, contacts, and/or funding opportunities come to mind! And please feel free to reach us via email (miamisocialsciences@gmail.com), telephone (917.434.4286), or Twitter (@miami_institute).

As a bit of an introduction, the Global Index aims to be a free public database facilitating our access to past and present works of Global Majority scholars in the fields of economics, sociology, political science, history, psychology, philosophy, and anthropology. We hope that the Index will play its part to expand our sense of who has produced, and produces, knowledge in these fields. Because how much richer (and accurate) would our understandings of the world and its people be if we internalized a broader scope of who is, and has been, knowledge producers in these fields? And how much more thoughtful and sustainable would our national and global communities be if we saw each other across the Global South and North as knowledge creators about the world around us?

We hope that you enjoy the video and look forward to hearing from you soon!
